Red Pen Roses

From Kate Axlund, a teacher at Williams Middle School in Cedar Sturgis, South Dakota:

"Each year, I have students in class who do not have their red pens for correcting. I don't mind providing the pens, but often they disappear before the end of the first week. I solved that problem by creating a bouquet of roses that the students can use. I use florist tape to attach different colors of silk roses to red pens. Bic Cristals work best because they have a hole in the lid that the wire can go through. The pens are in a vase on my desk and students can use them at anytime without reprimands or questions. I get a great floral boost and students don't leave the room with my red pens."
